How does ELO work?
ChessDare uses the FIDE ELO scoring system to calculate each player's rating. Your rating goes up when you win and down when you lose, depending on the ELO difference with your opponent.
K-Factor (speed of change)
The K-factor determines how much your ELO changes in each game. New players have a higher K so their rating adjusts faster.
Games 1–5
K = 200
Games 6–15
K = 100
Games 16–50
K = 40
Games 51+
K = 20
Note: Aborting a game does not add or subtract ELO nor count as a game played.
